Hong Kong's central street market is the oldest surviving open-air market in the city. It's been here since 1841. Currently the Urban Renewal Authority intends to tear down or redevelop many buildings in the neighbourhood to create a brand new "Old Shop Street". Four new buildings will also be constructed: two 30 and 32 storey residential buildings, a 26 storey hotel, and a 34 storey office tower. The affected zone is bounded by Gage Street, Gutzlaff Street, Peel Street, Graham Street and Staveley Street. Many of the 40 or so buildings under threat were built in the mid-50s and early 60s. Some of the 80 shops and 130 stalls in the area are family businesses that have operated for generations.

30-something storey monsters in place of classic architecture, not to mention destroying people's prospering businesses?! :jawdrop:

This is a crime! Can nothing good and old be respected these days?! :crying:

Yes I can see

Will those people at least get some proper compensation, or it's just "go away, we don't want you here anymore"? :(
